WILL’S
NORTHWOODS INN TO CROWN 18TH MUSKY QUEEN
at annual Musky Fest – SEPTEMBER 19, 2009
“The Last Great Party of
Summer”
WXRT’s Lin Brehmer is our very
special guest and will crown the Musky Queen DICK LEINENKUGEL TO SERVE AS GRAND
MARSHAL
September 19, 2009 Chicago, IL -- “It truly is the last
great party of summer!” So says Jon
Bunge, owner of the unique bar Will’s Northwoods Inn, located - not in
the Northwoods of Wisconsin as you might think from the stuffed fish and other
fine examples of taxidermy displayed on ubiquitous knotty-pine paneling, and
the fervor of its cheese-head wearing Green Bay Packer fans, but rather on the
corner of a quiet, shady street in the South Lake View neighborhood of
Chicago’s North Side. Opened by Bunge in
1991 as an original replica of the homey bars and taverns found in the towns
surrounding his birthplace in Upper Wisconsin, Bunge calls Will’s: “A little
bit of God’s country in the heart of South Lake View.”
Saturday,
September 19 is the date of Musky Fest, and the 18th time that some
lucky lady will be named Will’s “Musky Queen” says Will’s General Manager Kevin
Kruse, “Will’s Musky Fest is shamelessly modeled after a similar event held
every year for the past 60 years in Hayward, Wisconsin, the Freshwater-Fishing
capital of the world. Our “Musky Queen”
contest began as, and continues to be, a blatant attempt to drum up business
during the final days of summer.”
Beginning in August and continuing through Friday,
September 18, any female 21 and older is invited to “guest bartend” at Will’s
on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night from 8pm to midnight, earning some tips
and currying favor, and hopefully getting the customers to remember them when
the contest culminates with a popular vote, which takes place on Saturday,
September 19 from 11am to 10pm (says Bunge, “Voting follows the old and
venerable Chicago tradition: One drink,
one vote”).
Dick
Leinenkugel, of the Leinenkugel beer family fame, comes in from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin
to serve as Grand Marshal and is accompanied by very special guest Lin Brehmer
from WXRT radio, who will once again crown the Musky Queen. The lucky lady who is crowned “Musky Queen
2009" receives a tiara and sash, a stuffed Musky, a free keg party at
Will’s, and a choice of $250 in cash or a week at Jon’s Great Aunt Hannah’s
cottage on Lac Little Court Oreilles, Wisconsin (outdoor plumbing, and no
heat).
Entertainment
will include 5 live bands. Scheduled to
perform are: 3rd Sunday String Band,
Pagowa, Mel Music, The Ellen Miller Band with special guest Les
Getrex,
and Wisconsin’s very own,
The Greg
Brady Experience.
You’ll
find Will’s by keeping your eyes open for a 9-foot fiberglass moose and a
14-foot fiberglass bear which both reside in the outdoor beer garden next door
at 3030 N. Racine! For more information, please call
